ABOUT ROCHESTER
PHOTOGRAPHY
GROUP
Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Rochester .

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Rochester Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

Was a good refresher for me. Location is kind of uncomfortable as you can get distracted by customers.

I've been a nature nut since I was young, and I started photography because I want to take pictures of wildlife. After working in several zoos as an animal keeper, and a docent for many years,
After 45 years of professional photography, photographing weddings and portraits, I now just do wildlife photography. I also work as a teacher assistant with special education students. I enjoy teaching all ages of students and all levels of photography.

Title or Location: "Tree Swallow". was taken at the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge.
I live near the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, so I visit it often with my Nikon d750. This image was taken on May 2 at 6:04 in the morning from the boardwalk on Kanyoo Trail. When I saw the tree swallow perched at the end of a dead branch, I was captivated by the simple composition of the scene. I gave me a sense of peace and calmness. I also thought there was a bit of humor to the scene, as if the tiny bird's weight was bending the branch. For this show I used a Tamron 70-300mm lens

Taken during an afternoon photowalk on 4/19 I wanted to capture details of the spring blossoms before they were damaged by the cold snap. Taken with a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra phone camera edited in Lightroom.

Not much to say about this photo. I was driving to work and I saw the sunrise reflecting off buildings to east and off St. Ann's Chapel in the Untied French and German Cemetery. I pulled in and took photos of the chapel. When I turned around, I saw how the monuments in the cemetery were silhouetted against the sunrise and snapped the photo.

Title or Location: Amboseli National Park, Kenya
I was on a private safari with 3 friends in Kenya. This photo was taken in Amboseli National Park. We had been up since dawn on an all day game drive, and were on our way back to camp late in the day when our guide spotted a herd of elephants off in the distance. The sun was getting really low in the sky and we thought we would lose our light soon, but our guide thought there was a good chance the herd would head our way and perhaps even cross the road we were on. So we sat and waited as the

    Title or Location: Watkins Glen
Love Watkins Glen. But for photography, it is quite challenging because of the light condictions but also as everyone usually take the same shots &128514. No exception here for the composition but tried a bit long exposure to remove people and also used 3 shots exposure bracketing with a circular polariser to reduce water r?flexion. But the other cool things with Watkins Glen, even if you aren?t too happy with your photo shoot day, you can stop at Spotted Duck for a Flight of Ice-creams on t

Title or Location: NYC sunrise from Liberty Island
On our way to Maine from the Bahamas, we wanted to stop in NYC. We anchored our catamaran between Liberty and Ellis islands late afternoon. It was June 2020, still peak of Covid and we were the only boat in the bay. We had opportunities to get shots of the boat in front of the city, and with the statue. It was incredible. But the next morning was when the view reached the next level. Sunrise and early golden hour, from in a unique position created the perfect moment for this shot.GH5, 1/60, f2

Title or Location: This Still Life Photograph of "Grapes, Strawberry's and Wine" was taken in my bedroom in Orange County California.
This image is a Still Life Composition of "Berries, Wine and Grapes" that I created on a rainy day in my bedroom. I used no fancy Studio Lighting at all. My only light source was a hand-held flashlight that I kept moving rapidly. It was an experiment in Light Painting when I couldn't go outside to shoot.
