Ira has been an avid photographer since his teenage years. After receiving a BA in Sociology from McGill University in Montreal, he came to Rochester and received an MFA in Photography from RIT. Shortly after graduating, he was hired by the City of Rochester to be a Staff Photographer. Serving in that capacity for forty years, he documented a wide variety of people, places and special events while managing the development of a huge collection of film-based and digital images. As a retiree, Ira now pursues his own art photography and maintains a free lance business. He is also a fan of jazz music and local history, and enjoys exploring his adopted home town of Rochester and the nearby Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.
